In addition to the word NOT being "shock collar" but actually "shot caller" in an organized crime, gang context*, I have also learned that it is NOT "card shark" but "card sharp" when referring to someone particularly skilled in playing cards.
*the shot caller thing I actually learned 1-2 years ago but thought I'd bring it up as something that I do with mishearing crime drama tv and making assumptions that make it make sense in my own head, rather than looking into it further. For instance, I thought they were called shock collars because like you'd put on a dog to keep them in bounds, the guy in that role was the enforcer for the crew/gang to keep everyone in line. I mean...I'm kinda right about the function of the role, just not the actual words people are saying.
