Dogs are bred for certain characteristics/traits. Hunting dogs point/flush, retrievers, well, they retrieve, duck tollers and sheepdogs-guess what they do, all without training (look at puppy behavior). BTW, your OP is incorrect, to quote you "but pitbulls are not big dogs". Some can be small, but they can get up to ~85 lbs, that's not small or little by dog standards.

Vets agree a healthy weight of a pitbull at say, 7 to 8 years old (middle aged) is 55 to 65 lbs.
