I didn't think I'd have to explain everything in such detail but...
The point about not closing one's mind and having an imagination is that if we had sat around happy with fires in caves, rather than imagining what might be over the horizon, we would not have developed anything like how we have. If no-one thought "I wonder what this us really made of.." would we developed molecular and atomic theory? Without attempts to further our knowledge, to see what we currently can't see, to believe there may be more to an answer, we would have failed to move out of the stone age. I know many theists are equally lazy by saying "God is the only answer I need" but that outlook doesn't impress me much. I believe there is much to see that we currently cannot.
If you are being agnostic and saying simply "I don't know" then that is one think. However, if you state my belief is wrong then you are effectively supporting the contrary I.e.,that there is no god. That is not the same as stating that you do not know. You do perfectly illustrate exactly why you cannot empirically say that God does or doesn't exist by using logical extrapolation. That is why it always comes down to personal philosophies and ideologies.
The statement you said was illogical is a philosophical quote. An example would be to look at flight. Only 4 or 5 generations back, many thought flight was impossible. Those who dared to use their imaginations showed them to be wrong. Gradually, we were able to develop and apply aeronautical science to perfect planes, helicopters etc. None of would have been possible without a little imagination. Me being a basket is just arguing ad ridiculum.
