Rather than create a TL;DR post here, I'll just say that evidence strongly suggests that there is a substantial amount of mass that we can't see in the universe. This can be seen in galactic scale. Scientists call this "dark matter", though we don't yet know exactly what it is.
Furthermore, observations also strongly suggest that there is a force that is causing the expansion of space-time to accelerate. Scientists call this "dark energy", though like dark matter, we don't yet know exactly what this is. Much like gravity - though no sane person would claim that gravity doesn't exist.
SOMETHING is causing these observable phenomena. This leaves us with three possible conclusions that I can think of.
1) Dark matter and dark energy exist.
2) The observational data are wrong.
3) Our knowledge of physics is fundamentally flawed.
There is nothing to suggest that 2) or 3) is the case. This leaves us with provisional conclusion that there is substantial matter out there that we can't see, and a fundamental force that we don't understand.
It really isn't that complicated (from a layman's perspective), and for fucks sake, it isn't even that controversial.
