That is quite untrue. Hitler was no zombie, especially during this period. He was a very well read with a very wide, if not necessarily very deep, range of knowledge. During tthe period on question, when his mental facilities were fully intact and at their peak, he certainly had the ability to discourse very persuasively and support his arguments powerfully and adroitly. He certainly met with many world leaders during his tenure as German chancellor. As audio recording of his diplomatic discussion with foreign heads of state showed, he was also quite capable of very smooth and charming persuasiveness. Popular image of hitler the scowling hysterical madman is too influenced by a combination of mere caricature, and the renowned apoplectic rage he exhibited towards the end when his faculties and mental flexibility has experienced a period of notable decline.
I think if the Churchill hitler dinner conversation did occur and the what and how of the discussion were to be recorded and portrayed accurately on film and television, it would be extremely disturbing because it would have to highlight just how similar Churchill the famed wordsmith on the one hand, and Hitler the spellbinding psychopath on the other, are in how they persuade.
