My model 3 requires ball park $7 of electricity at off peak rates to cover ball park 250 miles. This means Financially it is getting the the equivalent of 150 miles to the gallon at current CA gas prices.
Offsetting this is the fact that the car payment is ball park $200 more a month because the car cost roughly $15000 more than a comparable gasoline powered sedan.
In the long run, electric cars requires next to no routine maintenance, and its power train have service life 2-3 times longer then power train based on reciprocating engines. So if one drives about 1500 miles a month, then one saves about as much on maintenance and depreciation of the car each month as the extra monthly car payment.
