When do statistics count?

Now - even if you discount half of the 45,000 - as they are suicides - you still are 20 times more likely to be killed by gunfire from a civilian, than a cop.

Isn't it the case that people are more afraid of guns in general than cops? And that they are afraid of cops because of guns?

I'm not sure there's anything disproportionate here.
