What percentage of police shootings do you think ARE justified? (Only US legal standards apply).
Shouldn' t the justified shootings be removed from the numbers? After all - that is what we pay the cops to do.
1. I have no idea what the percentage is, because I don’t know the details of every officer-involved shooting that results in the death of a cop. But I’m aware of at least a few news stories where it’s pretty clear that if the cops hadn’t shot and killed someone, more people would likely have died (mass shootings, for example).
2. The problem with removing justifiable shootings from the tally is that it is frequently (but not always) cops and cop procedures that determine justifiability. You can remove the justified shootings from the cop numbers if I can remove intentional shootings from civilian numbers.
If you think that you pay cops to justifiably shoot people, you should spend more on training cops.
