A person may have the agency to do the right thing or not. but there is little doubt for a russian nationalist, no more strident in his nationalism than ordinary “patriot” in ukraine or anywhere else, but with some clear headed foresight, using forceful measure to subdue ukraine when it otherwise might enter into a hostile alliance, if other means have been tried abs did not avail is absolutely the right thing, because in 25 or 50 year a total defeat in the effort would be no worse for russia than not doing this.
what you are attempting to assert is everyone should be held responsible for doing the thing that we deem to be right because it suits our own interests, and the fact that it is wrong thing by their lights is no excuse because they have the agency to do the wrong thing, and should, for our convenience.
