I am watching the gun violence hearing. One black lady whose son was shot point blank in the head, at a party playing dominos is railing against gun control laws saying they do not work and are racist.
Right on both counts, but wrong as to why. Her son's shooter was playing dominos, so he would have been focused on that when the killer put the gun to his head. Having a gun on himself would not have helped him. The bullet that came out of the killer's gun is far faster than he could have gone for his if he had one. But if the killer had not been able to access the firearm in the first place, her son would still be alive.
Our gun laws are a bs patchwork with no meaningful national standard. So white gop congressmen getting sugar daddy funds from the CEOs and the gun lobby point at "gun free zones" and falsely say "only criminals will get them". Ok, all the more reason for firearm CEOs and shops be held accountable as to where their products end up. Blacks have as much right to defend themselves as whites. Which is why nobody, black or white, should be allowed to go into a gun shop, or make a untraceable purchase, or straw purchase, or gun show purchase, or online purchase. I think because of her rightful emotional reaction she is making that argument that our laws don't work. And I agree they do not, but the solution regardless, is not to arm more and sell more in any zip code.
Whites should not be allowed to simply walk into a gun shop and buy a firearm and stalk a black zip code grocery store and murder dozens of patrons. And that store had a security guard too, and he died, while being brave, but his gun still did not save him and the killer still was able to shoot several patrons.
