No. That would mean I have to subscribe to a specific school of thought. Tradition. Which I've already said, isn't necessarily accurate. Besides, why would I want to blow 200k on a PhD when I can get the same thing for $1.50 in late charges at the Public Library? That's from an old movie. Then there's this new thing for book learnin' 'n such called the Internet . . . but see, you can do a quick qoo-goo search on what the experts say easy enough, the trick is understanding what they say. And testing it.

So, for example, if go to Bible Hub and do a translation comparison on Isaiah 14:12 you would find that some translations read shining one, morning star, day star and others read Lucifer. All kinds of confusion has been caused by the uninformed assumption that Lucifer is a name for Satan. Go back to verse 4 and it becomes clear that it isn't a reference to Satan but to Nebuchadnezzar as representing the Babylonian dynasty. Even scholars can tell you that. I would think. I would hope. But, who is this Satan anyway? Satan is a Hebrew word meaning adversary. It's applied first in scripture to a righteous angel who stands in opposition of Balaam's dumb ass. Dumb means can't talk. Ass means, in this particular instance, a donkey. The Hebrew word satan is also applied to men. Just like the Hebrew el (god) and its variations are applied to men. If either have the definite article ha (ha Satan, ha El) they apply to Satan or God respectively.

What was I talking about? Oh, yeah . . . Lucifer. It's a Hebrew word meaning light bearer. Think luciferases, which are enzymes that use a substrate called luciferin, along with oxygen and ATP, in an energetic process that produces light. Uh, fireflies, Bill Gates vaccine tattoo. The Greek is, uh, oh, what the hell is the Greek? Phoshoros? means the same thing. The terms are applied to Jesus, Nebuchadnezzar, and Satan. As a metaphoric application to specific individuals who are heralds of a new day. Morning star? Get it?

Okay, back to Bible Hub. Some translate from the Latin (lucifer) and some from the Greek (Phosophoros). From either the Latin Vulgate or the Greek Septuagint.

Quote:The Hebrews believed in a flat Earth, inherenting their cosmology from the Sumerians.  Everyone knows this.

Is that right?! Fascinating!

But, it's pretty vague and insubstantial, isn't it. What Hebrews? When? And besides, this thread is what the Bible says, not what the Hebrews in general said. Where does the Bible say the Earth is flat?

Quote:The idea persisted throughout the New Testament all the way until the pre-Nicene fathers:

Again. Not really relevant, is it?

Quote:Later on when Christian scholars began to have more conduct with the Greeks did the idea of a flat Earth become more unfashionable.

When was that? The influence of Alexander the Great, with Greek philosophy, on Jewish thinking began in earnest after his conquest of his neck of the woods after 332 BCE. The same with Christianity, in earnest, around 325 CE. Of course, that isn't to say that those influences didn't exist prior to that time, just that they kicked it up a notch or two then. So, we go circle back to what the Bible says.

Quote:Later on when Christian scholars began to have more conduct with the Greeks did the idea of a flat Earth become more unfashionable.

I don't doubt it. Christian crosses, the cross being a Roman phallic symbol, wasn't popular until after Constantine. Christmas wasn't popular with "Christians" until after Dickens. See what you're doing? You have at least some idea of the transmogrification of Christian theology but that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the Bible.
