-and with the above in mind, it seems to me that a four front approach would work to eliminate all shootings that might be eliminated.
The first is to shore up the administrative state. We've intentionally defunded and defanged gun laws and agencies. This goes to sale, trafficking, storage, and use.
The second is to fund public mental health care - by far the greatest factor in gun death.
The third is to fund anti-poverty initiatives which address the root causes of crime. (and in concert with the above, domestic violence)
The fourth is to fund a nationwide buyback program targeting whatever class of weapon is most prevalent in trace data. It would be older handguns to start..and for a long while.
I think that these steps should be performed before we discuss the merits of curtailing our rights.
