Well how much of a "fact" is it really if it doesn't affect me personally. The word "fact" becomes meaningless at that point.

You're a moron.  It, and the stupidity of what you're doing, remain a fact, regardless of your past experience.  The word has the same meaning that it always has had.  No more.  No less.

Ok yeah I get it, it's a fact, but why should I care? Facts only matter when they affect a person personally.
