Why wouldn’t we be? Russia using nukes in Ukraine is unlikely to trigger a global thermonuclear Holocaust.

A much more likely scenario is Russia setting off a dirty bomb in one of its own cities, blaming Ukraine, and using it to justify the use of non-nuclear WMDs.

The idea Russia would ever risk using even a tactical nuke so close to it's own borders has always seemed far fetched

Even more far-fetched is the idea of using one so close to NATO countries. That’s an Article 5 trigger waiting to happen.
