Pride can be negative when it leads to Hubris and a lack of empathy for others. Otherwise, pride involves feeling good about yourself and about how others perceive you. It is mostly a good thing.
Pride is seen as a sin because deluded pride is merely folly but true pride implies that you actually have something of which to be proud. And the mediocre can't stomach that.
