Yes, seriously. He actually likened himself to the part where Arlo's jumping up and down and getting the Army shrink to join him in jumping up and down and yelling "KILL! KILL!" And he expected the court to buy it. Regardless of the fact that Arlo's obviously lying about being that ax-crazy so he can keep out of Nam, regardless of the fact that it's obviously supposed to be a humorous version of the real incident, regardless of the fact that it doesn't even work in the song because they're okay with that level of crazy.
