But theists argue that time moves differently for a deity than it does for us. Therefore, a couple thousand years is nothing, could very well be perceived as soon, to an immortal.
Yes, they argue - but they don't read what's written. There's a collection of verses that all say the same thing, and it's summed up in this one:
For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay. (Heb.10:37).
A very little while is not 1900+ years. Like Dr Ehrman said: "And this was to happen within Jesus' own generation."
People see what they want to see ... not what's really there.
