I don't agree. I don't think Putin sees Ukrainians as mongrels, else why would he be kidnapping children to poison the genetic well? Losing tens of thousands of men to kidnap tens of thousands of Ukrainian kids not only looks like a wash, it also replies to the untermenschen motivation you're floating.
I think Putin's motivation is much less master-race and much more "I want to take my ranking with Tsar Ivan or tovarisch Stalin". Much more personal. Now, if this requires genocide, it's all fair pool in his mind; but he's at this point striving for his place in Russian history, I believe, rather than any overarching ideology of master race.
The fact that Ukraine is embarrassing the shit out of him in this, the last major deed of his life, must hurt. And boy, them are some sweet tears he's crying. Meanwhile, his food-tasters are very worried about their own life-spans.
