Wow, that's ignorant. Even assuming religious belief is factually wrong, it's certainly not pointless.

Religious belief is widespread because it's evolutionarily beneficial

Being widespread and once having evolutionary benefits doesn't alter the fact it's pointless and redundant.

I'm going to pretend I didn't read that. Something beneficial can't also be pointless, you don't need more than one brain cell to realize that.

 religious people procreate more, they tend to have a strong sense of community, which is also good for survival.

And there is nothing inherent to religion that causes that. That another system couldn't equally do. So this point is redundant. Religion is pointless. There is no reason to engage in it.

This just means that other systems are also beneficial, that's not a defeater.
