I don't think nihilists have to feel hopeless and be pessimistic. That is a stereotype.
Some don't feel hopeless and pessimistic. Even Nietzsche wasn't all doom and gloom. I found his writings tended to be more uplifting than Nausea or The Stranger. But it doesn't matter. Feeling a certain way isn't a requirement to being a nihilist.
