Why focus only on gun violence? What makes you think that some murderers don't respond to gun control by using other weapons?
Some murderers don't use guns because they use knives or strangulation. Serial killers seem to prefer being up close and personal in their approach, it's part of what they are looking for...the control over a person is done too fast with a well-placed bullet. It's not that they give a good god damn about gun control one way or another.
There is a difference in numbers with a murderer and a mass killer who mows down the congregants in a church or attendees at a concert.
