Harry Houdini had the same problem. As much as he tried to assure his audiences that what he did was stage magic, not real magick, they wouldn’t believe him. Even Arthur Conan Doyle - who should have known better - long insisted that Houdini had the power to de-materialize his body and pass through solid objects.
The will to believe is very, very strong.

On the day my wife and I arranged to get married I took her to a spiritualist church in London (that was founded by Conan Doyle). When the medium, after speaking to several other people in the congregation, came to us he smiled and said: "I'm hearing wedding bells". She was in her early 20s I was in my 50s. He then proceeded to say very accurate things about significant events in her life.
He said to more than one of the congregation, after identifying deceased relatives, that they (the deceased relatives) were concerned about the fact that they were putting on weight ... which was not good for their health.
