It probably reflects anxiety in some parts of Japanese society regarding the re-militarization of Japan, ostensibly as part of forces of democracy aligned with the U.S. against China, but attended by a cultural trend, gathering force and promoted by the ruling liberal Democratic Party since about 2005, towards the renewed glorification of Japan’s imperial militaristic past up to and through the end of WWII and the removal of pacifist provisions put in Japanese constitution placed there after Japan’s defeat in WWII.
It may also reflect a latent fear in Japan that if Japan does fight China again, the war between Japan and China will go nuclear just as the war with U.S. did.
