There are theories of the universe in which time is finite but unbounded. It would be a bit misleading to describe the universe as eternal under said theories as the concept of eternity generally implies an infinite and unbounded time.
As a personal matter, I suspect the idea of infinite unbounded time is a conceptual error, inherited from prior times. It may itself be incoherent or simply impossible.
