I don’t know about US politics that well but my approach on this is a bit more universal and more philosophical. Before the start of the rise of extreme liberal values during the 80’s there used to be this cohesion within society. We used to respect working-class people more because we knew these blue collar people were our hands, our feet, our arms our legs. And they used to approve of us as their heads, their nervous system, their vital organs, their eyes, their ears now there is this huge cliff among us. They see us as this “intellectual upper class” who is not to be trusted and is responsible for all the evil in the world while the true upper class (the richest 1% that has as much wealth as the poorest 50%) is still getting richer and richer.
So Republicans should not like this either because that’s not the typical right wing approach of right wing-liberals either. I don’t think it’s very likely but I think Nikki Hailey is the better candidate of the GOP (because of all the things I have just said)
