Mel Brooks served as the (uncredited) executive producer of the film The Elephant Man (1980). When the film was screen for studio execs, Brooks sent them the following note:
'We screened the film to bring you up to date as to the status of that venture. Do not misconstrue this as our soliciting the input of raging primitives.'
