Do you always spend your time looking for things to bitch about? It sure seems as though you do.
1) No. It wasn’t like a school. Here we have Quran Courses for Children (which are either free or very cheap). I attended it a few times. I cannot say I learned a lot.
2) I believe in the value of discussion in this type of religious / social subjects. You are no longer within the field of philosophy when you have a “I said it so it must be true” type of attitude. If you understand what I am saying

I know that there can be religious schools that provide a good quality education without strongly imposing any moral or spiritual value on children. Knowing that public schools are not always better-quality schools (depending on where you live in the US), I understand that you parents probably made a good choice.
So as I said I am not such a strong opponent of religious schools. There has to be a few good ones. But I am still raising awareness on the fact that people who believe in the benefits of religious indoctrination at an early age love the idea of “religious education” too.
To me it’s a contradiction. I believe in a God that is present within each and every one of us so I don’t see a “need” for a religious education.
