No, the Veep is totally the president's pick
No, it isn’t. He can pick whomever he likes, but that pick has to be confirmed by a majority of both houses of Congress. From the 25th Amendment:
Quote:Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
So, if Trump wins and decides to dump Vance after the inauguration, a Democratic House or Senate could conceivably block his choice for a new VP.
