Hugo Gernsback, the editor and publisher for whom the prestigious Hugo Award is named, was a complete cunt. He paid his writers extremely low rates, or did not pay them all. He had a reputation for stiffing his creditors. He took more than one of his magazines through bankruptcy solely as a tax dodge. There is compelling evidence that several of the 80+ patents he held were stolen from other inventors.
