If you go to an Indonesian schoolroom and ask the kids to draw some scene with natural features, it will invariably look something like this:

- A pair of mountains (usually believed to be Mounts Sumbing and Sindoro in Central Java), called gunung kembar, and in the space between them...
- The sun, which never seems to rise above the two mountains.
