Where To Go In Paris?
#2
RE: Where To Go In Paris?
25 years and you're going to Paris? How fantastically romantic!.

Take half the clothes and twice the money you think you will need AND unless you speak at at least survival level French, you will need a good English/French French/English dictionary. The French tend to loathe tourists and many have a very unhelpful attitude.IE "IF you visit MY country, you speak MY language,or fuck you!" (Where have I heard that before?)

Get a map of Paris and work out where you're staying relative to things you want to see. WALK as much as you can. I think Paris is the most beautiful and romantic of the 50 odd cities I've visited, and made for strolling.

If uncertain ask the concierge.Do not expect that quaint gendarme to speak English,he may not.(IE may not speak it or simply may not feel like speaking it with YOU)

One of the best walks I had was from Monmarte to the Louvre. Put aside an entire day for Louvre if possible and/ or the museum of modern art..

DO go the Eiffel Tower,as high as you can,the view is fantastic. A boat tour on the Seine is fun..

Food is expensive; that coffee and small piece of cake in that charming little bistro will cost you $US50 --I bought coffee from McDonalds. Also croissants, cheese fruit etc from small bakeries and supermarkets. Good wine is NOT cheap and the cheap wine not worth drinking. I stuck to beer.,

Overall, I had a great time in Paris. My French is poor,so I groveled a lot, they love that. The French are not a people who think they are superior, indeedly doodly not. They KNOW they are the most intellectual, cultured and sophisticated nation on the planet. They also eat snails and think Jerry Lewis is a comic genius.

I envy you; DO buy a bottle of Veuve Cliqout and DO have the time of your life. (and watch out for the dog turds in the streets) Bon voyage.
