Apparently, The Phantom Menace was originally going to end with an extremely confusing twist: Apparently, Obi-Wan was supposed to die at the end, and Qui-Gon Was going to take up the mantle and even assume Obi-WAN’s identity.

Apparently, this is because, in A New Hope, he said ‘Obi-Wan? Now that’s a name I’ve not heard…’ and I can only assume that Goerge Lucas forgot that Obi-Wan took the name Ben Kenobi.
