Indeed! I don't like hand lotion, but when the skin on my thumb starts to sting, I'm all over the lotion. Better than bandaging it and it taking weeks to heal. I also do wood working, and the sawdust further dries my skin.
I had the same problem when I was full-bore woodworking. A mate told me I should wear gloves. Resulted in a long lecture which didn’t work, and a short practical demonstration which did.
