Apparently Darwin viewed his own ideas about the inheritance of acquired traits as having a similar conclusion to Lamarck, just with a different method. He thought that the body's cells would shed particles called gemmules during use and that these would move to the sex cells where they would be transmitted to the next generation and over time they would build up to create changes in the species.
Vaguely useful to know as something we can point to and show that we aren't blindly following Darwin as some sort of authority for our current evolutionary science
