When writing, the one thing from my past that pops into my head the most is how my freshman class English teacher wrote on my paper, "Stop switching tenses."
But here's the thing I have learned: you can't always remain in a singular tense.
For instance:
Today is warm, but yesterday was cold.
Before the comma, we have present tense, after the comma there is past tense.
Suck on that, teacher.
