I am an old white woman and there is some rap, hip hop, and R&B that I like very much. When my son was young and he and I were running all over for his sports games, he was the DJ in my car. I guess I got used to hearing it during that time and learned to appreciate some of the wordsmith skills involved.
But, my taste in music is all over the place. As a kid I was exposed to multiple styles of music, not the least of which was the Motown sound.
Blues influenced music is a favorite. My first husband loved Southern Rock. My parents listened to everything the 60s and 70s had to offer. I am not a music scholar, there is music from most genres that I like and some that I don't care for.
I don't overthink where the music came from. If I like it, I like it.
