The friend admitted he wasn't experienced with electronic troubleshooting. It turned out to be a circuit board that controls the ignitor, which I did notice was slow to get hot. It gets hot in seconds, now instead of minutes. 10/10 would recommend that company, which was recommended to me. The system is over 22 years old (we've lived here longer than that), so I'm just hoping that it keeps on keeping on.
We had to replace the downstairs system last year. It was 40+ years old so really can't gripe too much. Our electric bill certainly came down after the new one was installed. It had been held together with spit, wire, and crossed fingers for a long, long time.
