Al Pacino will play an exorcist in the horror film “The Ritual.”
The 84-year-old actor plays a priest who attempts, with the help of a colleague, to save a young woman who is possessed.
The Ritual draws inspiration from an actual exorcism that took place in the United States in 1928 of Emma Schmidt, who used the pseudonym Anna Ecklund.
Her alleged demonic possession and numerous exorcisms spanned several decades, culminating with an intense exorcism that lasted from August 18 to December 23, 1928, in Earling, Iowa. The young woman reportedly began showing symptoms of possession at the age of 14. She was 46 years old at the time of her final exorcism by Father Theophilus Riesinger.
The film will hit theaters on June 11th.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
