I said it from the beginning, even if Russia wins militarily, the unavoidable insurgency will make this a ten-year quagmire, and we saw in the 80s what that did to the USSR. But the fork in the road is long in the rear-view mirror, and Putin is now only spending lives in order to lengthen the life of his domestic regime. Even LBJ had enough brains to eat his own sword over Vietnam.
