German court rules that the Archdiocese of Cologne is not liable for the sexual abuse and impregnation of the foster child of a priest. The Diocese had approved the fostering plan. The court decided that the abuse was priest’s private matter.

She had demanded more than 800,000 euros because, as a foster daughter, she had been abused by a priest for years. She even got pregnant because of it. The court says that the priest acted as a "private man". There are therefore no errors to be proven against the archdiocese.
Melanie F. was probably the first victim of a serial offender. Because the priest had committed sexual violence against many girls in about 40 years. For this he was criminally sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2022. But not for the crimes committed against his foster daughter - they are statute-barred.
