Just to make sure everyone is clear, Microsoft are not planning on actually releasing and app-limited version. Not sure if I made that clear in my original post, but it was an idea they had, it got as far as announcing it before it was shot down by someone (good job to them...better late than never!). As far as we all know, there are no app-limiting features of any of the Windows products.
As for the Google OS, I can see it being very useful for netbooks that have very good internet hardware but not so good processing / harddrives (as I understand it, all the processing is done by a Google supercomputer and is simply streamed to the client). Neat idea, and it will definitely be an advantage to people who need fast processing without the extra baggage weight
