Quote:Croatian nun ‘stabbed herself then blamed fictional attacker’
A young nun in Croatia, whose claims she had been stabbed whipped up an anti-migrant furore, inflicted wounds on herself, police believe.
The Catholic sister, 35, who teaches religious studies at a primary school and is a keen football fan, was admitted to hospital on Friday suffering minor knife wounds to her abdomen.
She said she had been attacked in the streets of Zagreb, the Croatian capital, by a man she did not know. Reports of the alleged ambush proliferated on social media, with claims the nun had been stabbed by a migrant who shouted “Allahu Akbar”.
It led to a flurry of xenophobic and anti-migrant posts, and prompted calls for mass deportations, and reports of the story were reposted on X by an account linked to Tommy Robinson, the far-Right activist, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.
The account claimed “legacy media” had ignored the story “for the sake of diversity”.
However, as police questioned the nun, they grew suspicious of her story. They concluded that she had bought a knife in a shop in Zagreb and stabbed herself in the stomach.
On Tuesday, they issued a statement saying the nun had “inflicted the injury on herself with a knife” then filed a false report claiming she was attacked by an unknown man. Officers said a complaint would be filed against her for falsely reporting a crime.
Zagreb police said: “Unverified and inaccurate allegations about an attack by an unknown male person on a nun have been published in certain media outlets. They have been proven to be incorrect by criminal investigation.”

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
