It's not uncommon, though I didn't experience it, maybe because of the very gradual way I deconstructed my belief system, about 15 years from first doubt to realizing I'm an atheist or just because I'm optimistic by nature. But I've heard others express similar feelings. Like any grief experience, it does get better over time.

It might be a good idea to consider seeking counseling for it, in the UK you shouldn't have the American problem of finding a therapist only to discover they think you should rejoin the church.

An in-person like-minded circle of friends would help a lot IMHO, but in the meantime you have us. I hope this was of some help.
