From an achievement, sporting, and guts perspective it sucks

Americans don't give a shit about the rest of the world. The national hockey league has shut down a couple of time to play in the fucking olympics and it is the stupidest thing they have done since the lockout. Kills the momentum of the season.

If they interrupted the baseball season so a bunch of guys could go off to play in a fucking tournament I'd be super pissed. They'd end up playing the World Series in the snow in late November. The goddamn season goes on long enough as it is.

Panem et circenses.



Smoke & mirrors. Misdirection. And you fall for it.

And it's a full-blown billion dollar money machine in its own right*, of course.
But 'sports' they ain't.
Not much different from the real football, played and revered in and by the other 95% of the world, of course. Or the other national, continental, and global 'sports' concessions (Formula One, IndyCar, tennis, cycling, etc. etc.). Distractions galore.

*billions that are percolating UP, not down, BTW! To be sure.
