Actually I've done that very thing. Shortly after my princess was taken from me, and I mean ridiculously shortly after as in I was still in the cruel early stages of grieving, an uncle of mine sent me encouraging messages like "Why are you still moping around like the world owes you something? You're not the first person to lose a loved one" (paraphrasing slightly) and others expressing similar support. I replied to the effect of "Well, that's taught me the error of my ways. Thank you for those kind words, you may piss off now" and instantly cut him from my friends list. Also from my real world.
