Speaking In Tongues

On a serious note guys and gals I came from a fundamental charismatic church where the practice of the gifts of the spirit were employed.I myself have used several of these so called spiritual gifts myself within my ministry.As far as speaking in tongues go I once possesed that gift in full.When I left the church and became an atheist that was one of the many things that I had to try and explain away.

I think personally that it is a result of your environment.The fanatical churches tell you that speaking in tongues is the sign that you have been baptized by the holy spirit.As an ardent believer you want to fit in with the rest of your brethren in the church and so you begin to pray to god for that gift.Inadvertently you are mentally preparing yourself to recieve it by conditioning your mind that you will.And when you least expect it you are praying one day at home or in service and you begin to speak in tongues.If you have ever attended any of these religious services it's hard not to notice that the gibberish they all speak sounds very similar to one another.

I equate it to what is known in hypnosis as influencing en masse where your environment has an effect on your beliefs and behavior.It's all a form of hypnosis.
