I think the worst thing is that they believe that if they can poke enough holes in evolution, it will somehow prove that their god did it all. Because that's all they can do, poke holes. and hope the answer defaults to creationism. If they had as much evidence as they believe they do, they would put forth positive evidence proving creationism, but instead the best they can offer is attacks on competing theories.
Also, many of the highly educated ones use enough science to sound convincing, but I have yet to see an argument that wasn't easily debunked by a secular scientist.
