All right, in all seriousness, I am positive that applies to some people who choose to sell their bodies. However, I am also positive that it does not apply to "most." As for low self-esteem, there are examples in this very thread that disprove that idea. Well, at the very least, hubris is not lacking.
The very word "disreputable" refers to reputation. I hardly think reputation is important. The general consensus is usually idiotic. However, you're right. It is disreputable by definition. That is simply because most people find selling human flesh distasteful in all of its forms. That doesn't mean it deserves that reputation. It is a matter of definition.
I don't see prostitution as respectable. I was with a hooker once or twice and although it was a good nut I don't remember it being a worthy experience. I felt sorry for the girl but whatever. I fall in love with women who have character.
You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.
