No, he did not. Its out of context. Its still anti-religion, but as I said, the full quote is quite poetic in nature, and deserves the full version, rather than the bastardised paraphrase.
Correctly, it should at least say "Religion is the ..... opiate of the masses". People just started leaving out the ..... (I forget what its called).
Anyway, if you like Karl Marx, I thought you'd be interested in that bit of trivia, if you weren't already aware.
I kind of dipped and dapped on Marx. Read the communist manifesto. Read a few anarchist critiques on Marx.
Ive been wanting to read "das kapital", but everytime I look at the book (3 volumes each the size of a dictionary), I decide to wait. LOL.
Besides, Im not a Marxist. He calls for a strong centralized and socialised bank and I call for all banks to be converted to bakeries (or something else nicer than the usury pushers). Marx called for gradual change from capitalism, to socialism, to classless society. Anarcho-syn calls for an immediate change from whatever state your society is in to a classless and stateless society.
