This was not long after two white guys dragged a black guy to death there. The racial tension was still very much present. Confederate flags were everywhere. I kept thinking of the movie "Deliverance".
My parents are from a small town near Amarillo in the panhandle. To say there is racial tension there is putting it very mildly. The non-whites and whites do not mix whatsoever, and the few times I actually saw a black person, they looked extremely nervous and avoided all eye contact. During my visits there I have never heard the n-word thrown around so casually as if it was the correct terminology.
You have my sympathies. I've lived in parts of the South that are like that. I'm white but I hated it. It's so much nicer when everyone is an equal.
I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise
